Overview

Two core initiatives were tested this week:

1. The performance of CL with different ELs
   1. Besu achieved the highest number of blobs (50) while Erigon had the lowest (18).
   2. Besu’s performance despite its instability is questionable.
   3. We need more unified metrics for ELs.
   4. Geth was the most resource-efficient EL client.
2. The performance on Devnet-6
   1. Just started testing, but still fixing minor issues

1. With varying ELs

We collected data from Lighthouse clients pairing with Reth, Erigon and Besu in addition to Geth and Nethermind last week. getBlobs was enabled for all tests this time.

• Lighthouse/Reth: 35 blobs/block
• Lighthouse/Erigon: 18 blobs/block
• Lighthouse/Besu: 50 blobs/block
• Lighthouse/Geth (last week): 43 blobs/block
• Lighthouse/Nethermind (last week): 45 blobs/block

The Lighthouse/Besu was the best performing pair serving roughly up to 50 blobs per block .

Key insights

More unstable, but better results

The clients with Besu were generally more unstable compared to other ELs which performed worse than them.
